Stairlifts Plymouth — who we are

Meet the team behind Stairlifts Plymouth and learn how we help families across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall.

Our engineers carry the common consumable parts (batteries, charge contacts, key switches, control PCBs, hinge motors, footrest sensors) on the van as standard, so the great majority of faults are fixed in a single visit. If a less-common part is needed we'll order it the same day and quote the cost before fitting anything.

There is one fixed call-out fee that includes the labour for the visit. Any parts needed are quoted in writing before we fit them, so there are no surprise bills. Annual servicing is also available and prevents the majority of breakdowns.

Common stairlift faults we fix in Plymouth

Beeping stairlift that won't move — this is usually the batteries failing. Stairlifts run on rechargeable batteries (not mains) and they typically need replacing every 3–5 years. We carry replacements on the van.

Stairlift not charging — almost always either the charge points on the rail (corroded or misaligned) or the charger itself. Both quick fixes.

Stairlift stops mid-way — could be the edge sensors picking up something on the stairs, the safety brake, or a worn drive component. All diagnosable in a single visit.

Powered swivel seat not working — usually the swivel motor or its control PCB. Carried in stock for the main brands.

Error code on the display — every brand uses its own error code system; we know them and the engineer will diagnose on arrival.

Stairlift servicing prevents most breakdowns

Annual stairlift servicing is the single most effective way to avoid emergency call-outs. The service includes a full safety check, battery condition test, lubrication of moving parts, inspection of the rail and charge points, and a test of every safety system (brake, seatbelt, edge sensors, key switch).

Most of our long-term customers have annual servicing built into their aftercare plan. It typically extends the life of a stairlift to well over 10 years and catches small problems before they leave you stranded upstairs.

When a repair isn't worth it

Occasionally a stairlift reaches the point where the cost of repair is genuinely higher than the cost of replacement — usually with very old lifts where the manufacturer no longer makes the parts. If that's the case we'll tell you honestly, give you a written quote for the repair, and a written quote for a stairlift replacement, and let you make the decision.

If you do decide to replace, we offer a removal and recycling service for the old lift and can usually fit a stairlift replacement within 24–72 hours.

Common questions

How quickly can you get to a stairlift breakdown in Plymouth?
Most PL postcode call-outs are answered the same day, often within a few hours. If you're stuck upstairs with no other way down, tell us when you call and we'll prioritise the visit.
Do you repair Stannah stairlifts in Plymouth?
Yes — Stannah, Acorn, Brooks, Handicare, Bruno, Minivator and several older brands. We're independent so we'll happily work on lifts that the original supplier has stopped supporting.
How much does a stairlift call-out cost?
There is one fixed call-out fee that covers the engineer's visit and the labour. Any parts needed are quoted in writing before we fit them. Call 01752 648599 for the current price.
Why is my stairlift beeping?
Almost always a battery problem — either the batteries need replacing (every 3–5 years is normal), or the lift isn't parking at a charging point. We can usually diagnose this over the phone before sending an engineer.
Do you service stairlifts as well as repair them?
Yes. Annual servicing is the most effective way to avoid breakdowns — full safety check, battery test, lubrication and inspection. Most of our long-term customers have annual servicing built in.
What if my stairlift can't be repaired?
We'll quote the repair and quote a stairlift replacement, and let you decide. If you replace, we'll remove the old lift free of charge and can usually fit the replacement within 24–72 hours.
